Ventilated Tropical Dress

The Summer 1983 Catalogue introduced both the White Tropical Dress and the Ventilated Bush Shirt, and spoke of the textile being woven in England for BR and then the garments manufactured in India.

The Ventilated Shirt was a staple of the catalog from Spring 1983 until 1988. The Ventilated Tropical Dress debuted at the same time but was discontinued in 1985. From the catalog: “A civilized way to survive in a scorching desert, a steamy jungle, even a humid metropolis. We can attest to this because our short-sleeved tropical dress is made of the same 100% cotton ventilated-weave fabric, a very classic dress. Comes with a D-ring belt.”

The dress originally came with a D-ring belt, not pictured.
First appearing in Fall 1984 in three colors.
Final appearance in khaki and white. Summer 1985

A second dress, simply called the “Ventilated Dress” was featured in the Summer 1987 catalog on a double page spread singing the praises of ventilated cotton fabric. A Ventilated skirt was also offered. Pictures from an August 2020 sale.

The Ventilated Dress only appeared once in Summer 1987 alongside a ventilated skirt.
