Here’s a very cool piece of authentic surplus that came up on eBay, a Naval Pea Coat. Originating from Sweden, not the three crowns on the buttons and the word “Storlek” (size in Swedish). This is not in the catalogue as far as we can tell, it has the original price tag and the Discovered by Banana Republic tag. Uncatalogued surplus was sold in stores in limited quantities.
Robyn's fascination with Banana Republic began in 1984 when her Alaskan adventurer father began buying the clothing and giving her the catalogs. She loved the clothes and as an artist she was drawn to the illustrations. She went on to study illustration at art college in BR's hometown of San Francisco and worked for years as a background artist for animation. She is now based in Oakland, CA as a graphic designer and illustrator with Secret Fan Base . She's been collecting and archiving at Abandoned Republic since 2011.

I have one of these from Banana Republic. One of my favorite pieces from there. I miss how cool the stores used to be. Light aircraft hanging from the ceiling or a Jeep in the jungle. Then the GAP bought them and now you can buy a sweater like every other sweater.
