Marseilles Jersey

This shirt seems to have started as the Striped jersey in 1987 and then been rebranded in Spring 88 as the Marseilles Jersey , which is certainly more evocative. From the catalogue: “Wherever a French sailor goes, he’s the object of admiring glances from envious French mademoiselles. Is it devastating Gallic charm that causes feminine eyes to stray in his direction? Mais non. It’s his striped jersey, which has a certain je ne sais quoi. We thought it only fair to offer the ladies their own version of this classic shirt. So we knit this one of thick, sea and land worthy cotton. Wide sleeves and a boxy shape provide an interior air-conditioning system, while pre-washing minimizes shrinkage. This is no clingy t-shirt, but a shirt for all seasons–one tat holds equally well in Paris and in the port of Marseilles.”
