Leather Cardigan
From the 1987 Holiday catalogue: “When the seventh Earl of Cardigan lef the ill-fated Light Brigade wearing the front-buttoning top of his long johns as an outer garment, fashion, if not history, was forever altered. But, with all due respect to Her Majesty’s forces, it took Yankee ingenuity to realize the cardigan’s full potential–by recreating it in the softest lamb suede. Ever mindful of the cardigan’s heritage, we chose to knit cozy cuffs, collar, and waist-band. But because it’s also a jacket, we’ve added deep, welcoming armholes to accommodate cardigans of a more traditional sort. All in all, we think you’ll agree, Lord Cardigan’s long johns have come a long way indeed.”
