Women’s Ticking Shirt
The Women’s Ticking Shirt differs significantly from the men’s, tapered in all the right places and with very full sleeves.
From the catalogue: “As clothing archaeologists, we like to discover wearable artifacts. Our latest fiend: authentic mattress ticking, pre-washed for softness and woven with more warp than filling yarns for extra strength. We think it knocks the stuffing out of fabric that merely looks like ticking.”
Testimonial by Gloria Emerson: “Here is what you probably don’t know about this shirt: a U.S. passport, a press pass, a pen, a little comb, and two tissues in the other. This shirt also pleases me because of those sleeves: No one should bare her arms in countries where mosquitos transmit malevolent diseases. The ticking doesn’t show dust as an ordinary shirt might and will not seem as drenched in a rainy season.”
This shirt and I were almost inseparable. I usually wore it over a T-shirt — loose, knotted at the waist, or belted. My 35-year-old daughter has a similar blue striped shirt and says she’s channeling me every time she wears it.
