Donegal Tweed Sportsman’s Cap

From the Fall 1984 catalogue: “This genuine Irish cap is distinguished by two features. The brimsnaps down, and the back sits low. Our hatmaker, David Hanna, the world’s last tailor of true Donegal caps, actually handcuts the already handwoven fabric to achieve the exceptional fit. In the literary cafe of dublin, this is the cp that separates the poets from the poseurs.”

HT Neal Moore for collecting the photos from eBay for the archive.

I just received my hat, item # 5038 in Olive color as shown. Note that the medium size is (7 1/4-7 3/8) and my size is 7 3/8. I bought the large size (7 1/2-7 5/8), and the hat fits tight but comfortable. Wool hats should be washed in Woolite with cold water, but a previous owner probably washed my hat in warm or hot water and that is the reason for the shrinkage. Unless the hat is new old stock you might want to get a larger size.
