Lawn Bowling Trousers

Pairing with an Apocryphal Affiliates Shirt or an Italian Waiter’s Jacket made for a stylish ensemble.

From the Summer 1986 Catalogue: “The serenity of a summer morning…the patience of men awaiting their turns…the beauty of a ball describing a slow, shrewd arc as it kisses the jack and comes to a stop. The very British sport of lawn bowling (or “bowls”, as it is properly called) is the essence of leisurely civility, and certain clothes fit the pattern of this pastime. These white trousers, with subtle double-pleats, welt and button-flap rear pockets, and the abiding twill construction are as elegant as a well-placed draw shot on a sunlit green.”

Pants are harder to identify than shirts. There are a number of cotton pleated pants in the catalogue. White pants are less common than Khaki, so I think these photos below could be Lawn Bowling Trousers. There were white Khaki Dress Trousers but they had a distinctive coin pocket, which these don’t have.
