Women’s Safari Suit Jacket
While a safari suit jacket and pants combo was available for men throughout the safari era, a proper Safari Suit for women was available at limited times: only Summer 1986 in Ivory and Spring/Summer 87 in Pewter. The cut and style of the Safari Jacket seems to be identical to the Women’s Bush Jacket except it’s in luxurious lightweight Egyptian Cotton. Also available were either a match Safari Skirt or Safari Pant to make up the Safari Suit. See separate post about the Safari Skirt.
From the catalogue: “Safari, the the ever-wandering peoples of East Africa, meant simply a journey. Dressing for one was simple, too: an all-encompassing burnoose or Kikoi cloth. Today’s journeys–and journeyers–are more complicated, but suiing up for the road need not be. As evidence, we present our Women’s Egyptian Cotton Safari Suit, an elegant, streamlined approach to the demands of contemporary travel. Wearing it, you’ll never overheat or be at a loss for pockets, always look intelligently assembled. And it instills a subtle sense of worldliness: You’ll feel competent to haggle in the shuk, chat up a concierge, sample untranslatable cuisines. We’ve designed the elements of this splendid outfit to travel solo or together with aplomb.”
The Women’s 100% Cotton Egyptian Safari Jacket: “A classically styled bush jacket, tailored precisely to a women’s proportions, yet full enough to allow layering underneath. In lightweight, water-repellant Egyptian cotton, with sleeves lined in cool, smooth rayon twill. Instantly casts you as the heroine of your own legend.”
