Lamu Dress

The Lamu Dress was featured three times and offered different colors and patterns each time. Still, the first photographic evidence I’ve seen is in a different color and pattern, but is definitely a Lamu Dress.

From the catalogue: “East Africa’s Lamu Island enchanted us with its wonderful islamic architecture and lack of cars, but posed a pressing dilemma: steamy climate, puritanical customs. Then a trip to the bazaar turned up a lightweight, full-skirted dress that covered shoulders and knees, yet let air circulate. Its direct descendant, the Lamu Dress is the next best thing to nothing in hot weather. The silky cotton is virtually weightless; deep set sleeves and bias-cut skirt encourage ventilation; fabric-covered elastic at the waistline gives shape but doesn’t bind. A modest solution to a sticky clothing problem.”
