Costa Brava Shirt
Like so many candies in a jar, the Costa Brava shirt leaped off the page of the catalogues with an array of appealing colors, tropical and neutral. The relaxed, short sleeved casual shirt debuted in Spring 1986 and ran until 1988. It has no epaulettes and no closure on its large chest pockets. It was made for both men and women.
From the catalogue: “When the leveche blew up from North Africa, the heat became a palpable presence; getting dressed was a singular nuisance. The only shirt we wanted to wear was this one: loosely cut, open-necked, breathable yet destructible. On the beach at Alicante we wore the vivid tropical colors: when we returned to conservative (but equally sweltering) Madrid, we picked proper urban neutrals. And while all about us sweated and cursed the unforgiving Mediterranean sun, we remained cool, unwrinkled, completely at one with the elements.”
